The only way I can get my mid-week runs done for training is by doing them in the morning...EARLY! I have to say this past summer it hasn't been bad since it's been a dry summer and it's been light out. Now that it's October, sunrise isn't until 6:53. So when I get up at 5:20 and throw on my stuff (that I've laid out the night before), have a quick sip of "Joe", and a banana, I'm out the door for my run usually by 5:30 or 5:45 a.m. and it's dark!
This week has been comfortable temperature wise (around 50 55) without much wind or rain. As I get close to week 12, I am really having to convince myself I need to get these runs in, how much I love to run (which I do) and how cool running in the morning is! Obviously at that hour, it's quiet. I love being able to watch the sky turn from black transitioning over to the sunrise and then blue or gray skies depending on the day. It's time for me...to think, to plan, or to just listen to music and enjoy my time. Many people enjoy group runs and they are fun but over the years, I have learned that running is my solace.
Soon these early morning runs will be a "choice". I won't have to run and I hope that I continue my exercise regiment and either run or go to the gym at least 5 days a week. I have a good feeling after 3 rounds of training for 1/2 marathons, I've built a good routine and have a good idea I'll be able to continue with these early morning times.
